Signs Your Identity Is Blocking Your Manifestations (And How to Fix It After 50)
A little while ago, I was sitting with my journal open, staring at yet another list of things I wanted to manifest.
I’d done everything I thought I was supposed to do.
I wasn’t new to any of this; I’d visualised, journaled, stayed optimistic, kept my energy clean.
And yet nothing seemed to be shifting.
It was one of those quiet midlife moments where you start wondering if you’re doing something wrong, or if the Universe has somehow skipped over your order entirely.
That frustration was familiar to me, especially after turning fifty.
My desires felt clearer than ever, but the gap between wanting something and actually receiving it seemed to be getting wider.
Maybe you’ve felt that same tug of confusion, the sense that you’re doing all the “right” manifestation steps, and yet nothing is showing up.
If so, you are absolutely not alone.
And there is nothing wrong with you.
What’s really happening is something most manifestation advice never explains:
There comes a point many women reach in midlife where they feel deeply ready for a fresh chapter. Ready for more alignment, more abundance, and finally prioritising themselves again. But even with all that clarity, manifestations still stall. You may be: And yet… still waiting. It’s not your age. The truth is much simpler: Your identity hasn’t caught up yet. Here’s the piece most people overlook: You can want something deeply, but if your identity still sees you as the “old you,” your manifestations won’t stick. Identity acts like a filter. Everything you try to manifest has to pass through it. And if your subconscious still believes things like: …then even your strongest intentions struggle to take root. This isn’t about blame. Manifestation requires your desires and your identity to match. I remember writing a vision that felt exciting and expansive, more freedom, more abundance, more alignment. I could see the life clearly… but I couldn’t see myself living it. There it was. I wanted the life of a confident, empowered, abundant woman. That realisation changed everything. Slowly at first… and then with a level of ease I hadn’t experienced before. Most women don’t realise that midlife is actually one of the most powerful times to manifest. By this stage in life, you have: But at the same time, you may be carrying decades of old identity patterns that now need updating. Manifestation in midlife isn’t about intense effort. It’s about gently releasing the identity that no longer fits so your future self finally has space to emerge. Here’s how you can tell your identity needs a gentle upgrade: Block: Identity conflict This is one of the most common blocks for women over 50. You feel the desire for more money, more freedom, more ease etc., but you also feel a wave of guilt for wanting it. Why? Because your identity was shaped in a time when women were taught to be grateful, not “greedy.” Helpful, not ambitious. Selfless, not expansive. Your soul wants more, but your identity wants to keep you in the role you’ve always played. Block: Self-concept You can see the life. But when you try to picture yourself in it, it doesn’t quite fit. That’s your identity saying: Women over 50 feel this strongly because we’ve spent decades being the responsible one, the practical one, the helper. Block: Worthy-of-more You get a little win — unexpected money, a compliment, an opportunity — and instinctively: This is an identity wound around worthiness. Not because you’re broken, but because your inner settings need updating. Block: Caretaker identity If you’ve spent decades being the dependable one, the problem-solver, the emotional anchor… So when you try to manifest something for yourself, your nervous system panics: “This isn’t what we do.” And suddenly you’re: This is the caretaker identity trying to pull you back into familiarity. Block: Age identity This might be the biggest identity block midlife women face, not because it’s true, but because society has conditioned us to believe everything meaningful should happen before 40. Your heart knows it’s not too late, but your identity may still be working from an outdated script. Block: Identity mismatch This is that awkward in-between stage. You’re not who you used to be, but you’re not fully your future self either. It feels confusing, uncomfortable, and sometimes discouraging. But this is actually a sign that your identity is shifting. It’s the cocoon phase, and it means change is happening. These aren’t failures; they are clues showing you exactly where your self-concept needs to shift. Identity shifts don’t happen through force. They happen through gentle, consistent inner work that slowly reshapes how you see yourself. This includes: This is the deeper work that allows your outer life to finally shift. And it’s exactly why I eventually created something to support women through this stage. This journal is for women who feel like their desires are ready, but their identity hasn’t quite caught up. Becoming Her was created for women in midlife who crave something deeper: peace over performance, alignment over achievement. It’s not about doing more. It’s about becoming the woman your manifestations are already trying to reach. Why Manifestation Works Differently After 50
Six Signs Your Identity Is Blocking Your Manifestations
1. You want something, but feel guilty asking for it
2. You visualise your desires, but you can’t imagine yourself living that life
You can feel the life.
You can describe the life.
“That isn’t who we are yet.”
Becoming the woman who receives abundance requires a new identity map.3. You receive small wins… but sabotage or downplay them
If the old identity doesn’t believe you’re allowed to have more, it will shrink anything that arrives.4. You stay busy helping everyone else and put your dreams last
That becomes your identity.
5. You feel like you’re “starting too late”
6. You don’t feel aligned with the woman you’re trying to become
